LIFTING EQUIPMENT / PRODUCT SELECTION GUIDE

What should you check on a sling label?

Capacity, length and traceability: why the sling label is central to selection.

The label identifies the product

Sling type, material, length, manufacturer and working load information identify the product. An unreadable label makes it harder to determine the correct product and permitted operating limits. Check that the label and technical documentation agree when purchasing.

The lifting arrangement affects capacity

Straight, choke and basket arrangements are not the same application. Do not base a decision on the label’s number without considering leg angles and connection geometry. The correct capacity is determined together with the relevant manufacturer table and lifting plan.

Inspect the contact surface

Sharp edges and unsuitable contact can damage a textile sling. Protective accessories must be selected according to the edge shape and application. Damaged equipment should be assessed by qualified personnel rather than kept in use.

What should a purchase enquiry include?

Provide load weight, sling length, connection arrangement and required documentation. A load drawing or photographs of attachment points can help assess the enquiry. This article is not an operating or inspection procedure; current manufacturer instructions govern.

Technical assessment note

This guide provides general information. Product-specific selection, use and inspection must follow current manufacturer documentation and assessment by qualified personnel.
