What information should you share when selecting a steel wire rope?
The right quote starts with the right technical details. Learn what matters beyond diameter.
Read the guide ↗Assess fibre type, construction and operating conditions together for vessel and boat mooring systems.
Vessel characteristics, mooring arrangement and environmental conditions are the starting points for selection. The primary mooring line, supporting lines and connectors form one system. If a technical specification exists for the current system, use it as the first reference.
Polyester, polyamide, polypropylene and HMPE are fibre families with different characteristics. Twisted, multi-strand and double-braid constructions also affect application. A performance figure from one product cannot be generalised to all ropes of that fibre type.
Surfaces the rope passes over and its connection points must be assessed as parts of the system. Consider suitable protection against sharp or rough contact surfaces. The mooring arrangement must meet the vessel or marina requirements.
Share the vessel or boat type, rope diameter, length, existing product code and termination requirements. For specification-based purchases, state the required documents and labels. Suitability and performance are confirmed using the selected product’s current data sheet.
This guide provides general information. Product-specific selection, use and inspection must follow current manufacturer documentation and assessment by qualified personnel.
